Flea and Tick Control

 

In Texas, flea and tick season exists all 12 months. Flea Allergy Dermatitis is the most common, as well as the most preventable, skin allergy in both dogs and cats. Fleas have four life stages: The egg, larvae, pupae, and then the adult. Once the flea larvae reach the pupae stage, they are virtually impossible to kill. A single flea can produce thousands of eggs in its lifetime. Fleas can also infect your dog or cat with tapeworms. (Most clients are familiar with tapeworms as being described as worms that look like rice on your pets rear and in their feces.)


There are many flea products to choose from. Listed below are the products we sell and recommend. The topical flea products are most effective if you apply the dose 2-3 days before or after a bath due to the medication attaching to the oil glands on your pet’s skin.

 

Frontline Plus:

By applying Frontline every 30 days you can prevent the flea from ever entering into the Pupa stage. The following list is how Frontline Plus prevents flea/ticks:

  • Kills the eggs, larvae stage and the adult stage of the flea.

  • Kills four common types of tick including: deer tick, brown dog tick, lone star tick, and the American dog tick


 

Revolution:

Revolution is one of the newest heartworm and flea preventions available for your dog and cat. It too is in a liquid form and goes on the back of your dog or cat’s neck once every 30 days. This product claims to dry in 2 hours so you can bathe the pet in less than 24 hours.
 

Canine:

  • Kills the adult flea

  • Prevents flea eggs from hatching

  • Controls American Dog Tick infestations

  • Protects against Heartworm disease

  • Treats and controls ear mites

  • Treats and controls sarcoptic mange

Feline:

  • Kills the adult flea

  • Prevents flea eggs from hatching

  • Protects against Heartworm disease

  • Treats and controls ear mites

  • Protects against hookworms and roundworms



Sentinel:

Sentinel Flavor Tabs are another form of flea prevention. In addition to flea control, Sentinel prevents the infection of heartworms and intestinal parasites. Unlike Frontline and Revolution, Sentinel is for dogs only.

  • Prevents flea eggs from hatching, does not kill adult fleas

  • Protects against Heartworm disease

  • Protects against hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms
